Psychology support for Chronic Pain and Health-related concerns
While we work across a range of domains, one of the main special interest areas for Forward Thinking Psychological Services is in supporting adults with complex health conditions, chronic pain, or people navigating rehabilitation following an injury. We work closely with GPs, Allied Health, and other stakeholders, and provide evidence-based support and guidance to help you along the way.
Health problems and chronic pain often cause severe distress, and can impact work, study, relationships, sport, or other valued activities. The stress, uncertainty, and anxiety caused by not being able to perform at your best and enjoy life like you used to can be significant.
Whether you’re currently feeling overwhelmed, or simply want a clear path forward, we’re here to help. Our goal isn’t just to ease the immediate strain - we provide insight, clarity, and tools that last well beyond our sessions.

This varies depending on the person and the concerns you’re seeking support for. Some people find that 3–4 sessions are sufficient for short-term or specific issues. On average, many clients attend 6–10 sessions, which allows time for assessment and meaningful therapeutic work. More complex or long-standing difficulties may require longer-term support.

This is a common experience, and it’s completely understandable to feel unsure about trying again. While our clinicians bring experience and evidence-based skills, research consistently shows that the relationship with your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of success. The best way to explore whether therapy might be different this time is through a free 15-minute consultation, where we can talk openly about what hasn’t worked in the past and whether we’re well placed to help.
